Promotion

Moving something from a shorter-lived store to a longer-lived one: session scratch into durable memory, an episode into a standing belief.

Why it matters in a memory layer

Promotion is where the decision "is this worth keeping" actually gets made. Promote everything and the store fills with noise; promote nothing and the system forgets. It is also where an episode becomes a claim about the present — a genuinely lossy step, since "she said X on Tuesday" is safer than "X is true".
